About Me

Haskell Hart was born in Chicago, IL, on April 17, 1943, and graduated from Oak Park-River Forest Township High School as valedictorian in 1961.  He received the BS in Chemical Engineering with highest honors and distinction in the curriculum from the University of Illinois (Champaign) in 1965.  He holds the AM and PhD degrees in chemistry from Harvard University.

Major professional experience has been in physical, inorganic, and analytical chemistry. He taught at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington 1971-81 and left as Associate Professor of Chemistry to become analytical chemist and research manager with Shell Oil/Chemicals from 1981 to 2002, when he retired.  He has used databases extensively in analytical chemistry for identifying compounds by x-ray diffraction, electron diffraction, infrared spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.  Dr. Hart holds two US patents in databases for identification of materials from electron diffraction patterns (US 6,732,054  “Process for Identifying Single Crystals by Electron Diffraction” and US 7,532,785 “Process for Identifying Polycrystalline Materials by Electron Diffraction”).

In retirement he has volunteered extensively with Child Advocates(CASA), Texas EquuSearch, Texas  Gulf Coast Search and Rescue, American Chemical Society-Houston Area, Mid-Texas Symphony, Heritage Museum of the Texas Hill Country, Texas Master Gardeners, and Texas Master Naturalists.

A life-long amateur naturalist, Dr. Hart has followed the bigfoot/sasquatch news since the Patterson-Gimlin film.  Following the publication of the Ketchum DNA studies, he immediately began to examine those results and conclusions, leading to this blog and two peer reviewed papers on the subject:
